Spirits Tasting: Grappa
feat. Michael Logan
Thursday, July 7, 2016 / 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
This Thursday, Michael Logan from The Country Vintner will be joining us the bar to pour two grappas and a grappa-based liqueur from his portfolio. We only recently started stocking these spirits, so we're excited to be able to give you a chance to try them. Grappa is an Italian pomace brandy and a delightful after-dinner drink. In Italy, it is also often consumed with coffee. Whatever your experience (or lack thereof) with grappa, this tasting is sure to be interesting, so stop in and see us. Maybe you'll find a new favorite!
Grappa Marolo: A vibrant aroma with pronounced flowery and fruity notes: orange, rose, sage and coriander. Made with Moscato grapes from the Piedmontese areas of Langhe and Asti, this extraordinarily fragrant grappa can be enjoyed straight out of the freezer or on vanilla ice cream.
Grappa Marolo Dopo: This Moscato grappa was aged 5 years in barrels previously used to age passito wines from the Sicilian island of Pantelleria. An elegant spirit, it has flavors of tropical fruits, peach, candy, and raisins, along with hints of apricot and figs, reminiscent of the famous panettone cake from Milano. Ideal matched with aged cheeses.
Marolo Milla Grappa & Chamomile Liqueur: This grappa is based on an old family recipe, used by Signora Lodovina, and perfected by her grandson, Paolo Marolo. It has bright aromas of chamomile tea balanced with a touch of honeyed sweetness. Based on grappa from Nebbiolo grapes, chamomile flowers and sugar are added and are left to macerate for 11 months. The result is a unique and delicious aperitif.
