Spirits Tasting: Jos. A. Magnus & Co.
featuring Ali Anderson
Thursday, June 2, 2016 / 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Ali Anderson from Jos. A. Magnus & Co Distillery will be at the bar this Thursday showcasing Joseph Magnus Bourbon and Vigilant Gin. Magnus was a renowned pre-Prohibition distiller, and the name has recently been revived in the District of Columbia. The new proprietors are doing exciting things and producing some excellent spirits, so stop in for a taste. This tasting is free.
Jos. A. Magnus & Co. Vigilant Gin: A London-style dry gin with a well-balanced, herbaceous, and smooth palate. Offers strong flavors of minty juniper, while notes of grapefruit orange citrus, dried dark fruits, and vanilla round out and polish the edges. Although delightful to sip by itself, this is intended to be the perfect cocktail gin, and we think it does pretty well. A great addition to any summer bar!
Joseph Magnus Bourbon: Joseph Magnus Bourbon is a blend of straight bourbon whiskies, aged in white oak and finished in sherry and cognac casks, producing a unique (and delicious) flavor profile with notes of apricot, toasted nuts, caramel, and vanilla. Full, rich, smooth, and highly complex, this multiple award-winning bourbon has proven itself to be of the highest quality.
More about the Distiller: In 1892, Joseph Alexander Magnus began distilling, blending, and rectifying whiskeys, gins, and other spirits of exceptional quality, quickly becoming one of the most successful pre-Prohibition producers in the nation. The distillery was shuttered with the arrival of Prohibition, but Joseph's legacy—and some original bottles of his whiskey—were carefully preserved and passed down through the family to today. Inspired by Joseph’s story, his great-grandson picked up the torch and is reintroducing Jos. A. Magnus & Co. and his brand of remarkable spirits to the world.
